Eau Claire (WQOW) - In a week that's all about family, RCU is cooking up a way to give dinner time a boost.
This week, News 18 and RCU presented the latest Tools for Schools award to the Prairie Ridge Early Learning Center. Prairie Ridge houses part of the 4K program and Head Start for the Eau Claire Area School District. Teachers applied for a $300 grant. They know many families are struggling to put food on the table so they're hoping to buy as many crock pots as possible.
"The beauty of a crock pot is you can use it anywhere, if you have an outlet, you can use it, so if a family is in a bedroom, a basement, or if they're in a small apartment that perhaps only has a microwave, it'll be healthier food and an opportunity to cook together," said Melinda Daubitz from Prairie Ridge.
A typical classroom grant is $300, but RCU boosted the award by another $100 to ensure every family that needs a crock pot, will have one.
Tools for Schools is a partnership between News 18 and RCU and next month, we will be giving away a special $1,000 award to mark our two-year anniversary of the program. Click here to apply.
