State offers tips to avoid tobacco sales to minors


MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin state health officials are offering tips to help retailers avoid selling tobacco products to minors.

Free, online tools to help train retail staff in being able to check that a customer is old enough to buy tobacco products is available at .

State health officer Dr. Henry Anderson says everyone shares the goal of not selling cigarettes and other tobacco products to children. He says the state wants to partner with retailers to stop sales to young people.

Over the past five years, the rate of tobacco sales to minors in Wisconsin has ranged from about 5 percent to 7 percent.
