Wisconsin not asked by Boeing, but still pursuing contract

MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin economic development officials say they're putting together a proposal for Boeing to build its new commercial airplane in the state.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation sent a statement Wednesday to The Associated Press saying it was developing a proposal to present to Boeing, even though Wisconsin was not one of the states Boeing approached to submit a request for proposal. The Chicago-based company requested bids from at least a dozen sites last month.

WEDC says more than 140 Wisconsin suppliers already work with Boeing and the state is uniquely positioned to meet the company's needs.

Boeing is looking for a place to build the next-generation 777X commercial airplane after machinist union members in Washington state rejected a proposed contract that sought concessions on pensions and health care costs.
