Eau Claire (WQOW) - Creative minds go head to head in Eau Claire Wednesday. The Idea Challenge is a contest which showcases new ideas for produces or services.
There were 131 applications this year, five made the final cut. A multipurpose door rotating stand, ice fishing strike indicator, an electricity detecting glove, and a portable security motion sensor. The product that took the $5,000 grand prize? The THOR Mini Quick Thatch, it's a universal attach system for tractors.
"You start wondering and kind of doubting is this something that could possibly work or would it have value? And I guess today by winning this award, you kind of get the idea that maybe other people think so too," says John Gustafson, the winner of this year's challenge.
"We think this area has a lot of energy and potential, and we want to see the start up community prosper here, so that long term, 50 years from now, this area is going "Good thing we kept investing in start ups, because look where it got us today," says Lisa Johnson, with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
You might remember the winning product from last year, a squeezable sauerkraut from Sconnie Foods. That product is now being sold in local grocery stores.
