Western Wisconsin (WQOW) - Rates are going up for some customers of Xcel Energy, but not as much as the utility wanted.
The state Public Service Commission has approved Xcel's request to raise electric rates. Xcel wanted an increase that would add another $6.50 a month to the typical customer's bill. But the P.S.C. action will limit that to an increase of about $2.30 a month. The hike will take effect the first of the year.
Xcel was also seeking to raise monthly natural gas rates by $2.50 a month. But the P.S.C. decided gas rates should not be increased at all.
