Legislative vote on five union contracts Thursday

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A legislative committee has set a meeting on Thursday to vote on proposed contracts for five smaller Wisconsin unions.

Non-union state workers received a 1% raise in July, while raises negotiated by these five smaller units representing about 2,400 people have not taken effect because lawmakers have not voted to approve the contracts.

The Joint Committee on Employment Relations will take up the contracts. Once passed by the committee, the Legislature would have to approve them before they take effect.

Union leaders and Democrats have complained Republicans and the governor's administration stalled voting on the tentative deals.

Most bargaining units decided not to negotiate since the 2011 law known as Act 10 limited bargaining just to base pay increases no greater than inflation.
