Eau Claire tourism center announces plans for move

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Another public show of support Wednesday for the Confluence Project. An Eau Claire tourism center announced plans for a potential move.

Visit Eau Claire says it will move its offices to the location of the proposed Confluence Project if it's built.

Visit Eau Claire says it will also pay up to $50,000 per year for a potential visitor center. In addition it will set aside $25,0000, for up to three years, to launch a special marketing campaign for the Confluence Project.

Visit Eau Claire says it believes the project has a lot of potential to grow tourism in Eau Claire. WQOW News 18 asked if the announcement is premature considering there is still a long way to go before the first shovel hits dirt.

"There are a lot of conversations that must take place as far as the specifics of that detail.  But, we just think the concept makes sense and so you have to make first step at some point. It's something we've been talking about for a year so it's not really a rush decision at all," explains Linda John, the Executive Director of Visit Eau Claire.

Visit Eau Claire says the option to renew the lease at its current location on Jeffers Road is up next year.
