Eau Claire art teacher recognized with national award

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A local art teacher is recognized with a national award for her work with special needs students.

DeLong Middle School art teacher, Kathy Rulien-Bareis, is the recipient of this year's Special Needs Art Educator of the Year. It's awarded by the National Art Education Association.  Teachers are nominated from schools and universities all across the country.

Kathy says, "My students have taught me so much about learning, and I teach because I want to learn. So, to be able to represent the state of Wisconsin, not only Eau Claire, but the state of Wisconsin, on a national level is really quite an honor."

Kathy will be traveling to San Diego at the end of March to receive the award in person.
