State patrol warns of tricky travel conditions this Christmas

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Whether you're traveling five miles or more than fifty this Christmas, it's more than likely you'll be dealing with some difficult road conditions.

19 states, including Wisconsin, are under winter weather advisories and watches as threats of tornadoes, flooding and snow make their way across the country.

A major snowstorm will likely cause major problems for holiday travelers, canceling flights, closing roads and delaying the delivery of those Christmas gifts.

Here in Wisconsin the state patrol is warning drivers to play it safe, whether you're in a part of the state with two inches of snow or eight.

"Sometimes even those smaller snow falls like we might be getting here, sometimes present icier conditions here because it gets packed down quick and then turns to ice. So people need to be aware of those changing conditions and adjust their speed accordingly," says Sgt. Michael Newton, with the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post.

The state patrol also says, just because the speed limit is 65 doesn't mean you can't go slower, especially when the conditions are less than ideal.
