13-year-old drowns in Clark County pond after breaking through ice


Clark Co. (Press Release) - Clark County authorities are investigating the drowning that took the life of a skid loader operator. On December 23, 2013, at about 11:38 a.m., the Clark County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call of a possible drowning near the intersection of Pesldorf Avenue and Center Road in the Town of Hoard.

Initial investigation indicates that a skid loader was being operated by a 13-year-old male on an ice-covered pond. The pond was being cleared of snow when the skid loader broke through the ice. A family member found the victim when they became concerned and went out looking for him. The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield by Emergency Room staff.

The Owen-Withee Ambulance and Fire Department, Curtiss Area Fire Department, Abbotsford Fire Department, Spirit Ground Ambulance and Clark County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene. The Clark County Sheriff's Department and Coroner's Office is continuing the investigation into the drowning.
