UW-Eau Claire's Centennial Hall nearing completion

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Some say that education is the building block to our future.  For the past 18 months UW-Eau Claire has been building for its own education's future.  Centennial Hall will house the Education Department at UWEC starting with the spring semester.

"It has been a long time coming.  The education department has been in Brewer Hall forever," says Department of Education Studies Chair, Rose Battalio.  "We're really very excited about it."

"It's a very exciting time," adds Gail Scukanec, Dean of the College of Education and Human Services.  "All of us are in the midst of packing up, last minute kinds of things and so we are ready to go and anxious to get in."

Once inside, students and faculty will be able to see what the $44.5 million project has to offer.

"The building is about 182,000 square feet, we've got about 180 offices, 30 or so classrooms of various sizes," adds Scukanec.  "So we've got a lot of capacity, and there will be a lot of activity once it's fully underway."

The design of the building is meant to be as student and faculty friendly as possible, and is equipped with cutting edge technology.

"With the technology we have with smart boards, and distance learning TV, the new science lab, we're going to have our own resource library," adds Battalio.  "There is so much that we can do that we can really expand what we're doing with the students."

Centennial Hall will open its doors to students January 21st, the first day of spring semester.
