Strangers deliver heartwarming surprise to grieving girl

Posted:

Osseo (WQOW) - The holiday's can be hard on anyone who's grieving over the loss of a loved one.  A girl from Osseo is dealing with not one, but two losses right now.  Monday a group of strangers banded together to deliver a surprise she'll never forget.

On Monday 12-year-old Dani Morrow and her family prepared for a private performance beneath the pines of their Osseo home. "We've never had carolers before," says Dani.

Christmas carolers on their way to share the gift of song at a time when the when the Morrow's could use some good tiding and cheer.

About a year ago, Dani's dad, Tony, was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. Dani says, "There were a couple of times we were in the waiting room, and people rang the bell, like how they were in remission. And he would always sit there clapping so happy for them. In my head I was just like, hopefully we can do that for him soon."

A wish that would never come true, "He passed away October 10th," explains Dani.

And just a few weeks ago, Dani faced another great loss. Her horse Popcorn was put down after going through organ failure. Dani says, "God wanted them both at the same time."

Some recognizable, and others complete strangers. The group of carolers came with more than just their voices.  Through the crowd of carolers, Dani saw a furry face.

One Facebook post on the Chippewa Valley Horse Lovers Page and ten days, that's all it took for Dani's dream of a new horse to come true.

Candice Aspen, who coordinated Dani's surprise, says, "Within a couple of hours I was flooded with over fifty people making their horses available to us."

Dani, met Dani the horse earlier this week, under the impression she was looking for a horse to take lessons on. It was love at first sniff.

"Dani had sent a text message to my daughter Mikayla and she said it felt like fate, like somehow her dad and Popcorn had set this up," explains Candice.

Dani says, "It just means so much to me that they did this for me!"

Dani, the horse, came from someone anonymously in Spring Valley. The horse was never even for sale, it was just someone who saw the Facebook post and thought the two would  be a perfect fit.
