MN company to pay up in Wisconsin frac sand pollution case

Posted:

Madison (WQOW) - The Department of Justice reaches a settlement with a frac sand company following a spill.

Interstate Energy Partners, which owns a sand mining facility in the Town of Grantsburg (Burnett County), will pay $80,000.  In April 2012, a hiker spotted a spill in a creek flowing to the St. Croix River.

The state says the company failed to maintain necessary dikes and berms.  It's the second time in about a month, the DOJ has announced a settlement in a pollution case involving a frac sand company.
