Homeless shelter says beds were available on coldest night in years

Eau Claire (WQOW) - An Eau Claire homeless shelter, prepared to stretch its capacity during the cold, has room to spare.

The Sojourner House can provide shelter to 50 people each night.  In the past, it's had to turn people away, but said it would not do that during the recent cold snap.  Sunday night, 39 people stayed at the shelter.  The director believes many others asked to stay with friends and family until the cold snap passes.

He also says the community has been very generous with donations of coats, hats and mittens.  They have plenty of winter gear to give to anyone in need.
