Eau Claire County town approves frac sand moratorium

Eau Claire County (WQOW) - A town that's considered one of the local hot beds of frac sand mining is now under a moratorium.

Last month, the Town of Bridge Creek imposed a six-month moratorium on new frac sand operations.  The board says the purpose is to give the town enough time to determine if it should consider county zoning.  The board says it's aware of Wisconsin legislation that may impact the town's ability to regulate mining.  Hi-Crush and Five-Star Properties already mine sand in Bridge Creek.  The moratorium would not affect those companies unless they decide to expand.  The moratorium runs through June 19th.
