Sawyer Co. (Press Release) - On January 1, 2014, at approximately 7:40 p.m. the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office received a call from a resident on Margaret Lane reference his door being kicked in.  The resident's wife then called the Sheriff's Office again stating there was someone in their yard.  Sawyer County Deputies and Hayward Police Officers responded.

A male was found lying on the sidewalk in front of the residence.  He was deceased and appeared to have been in the elements for a lengthy period of time.

After initial investigation the deceased was identified as Matthew Raimer, 25, of Camp Pendleton, CA.  Matthew had been dropped off in the vicinity of his family's residence by a sober bus from River's Edge Saloon and did not make it to the residence on Hamblin Street.  It is believed he thought he was at his family's residence trying to get in the door and instead was at an unoccupied residence.

No foul play is suspected but the investigation is still ongoing.

**According to the Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home in Hayward, Matthew was raised in Lancaster, WI until 1993 when his family moved to Hayward, WI. He attended school in Hayward and received his high school degree in 2007. Matthew joined the United States Marine Corp. on August 18, 2009. He served a tour in Afghanistan and was currently stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA.
