New mentoring program focuses on physical activity

Eau Claire (WQOW) - January is National Mentoring Month, and with that in mind, Big Brothers Big Sisters is kicking off a brand new mentoring program aimed at combating childhood obesity.

Mentors in Motion will pair up big and little brothers and sisters, with a focus on physical activity. The program will require at least one hour a week of activity from everyone involved, and there will be planned events every month to help everyone achieve their goals.

Craig Monson, from Big Brothers Big Sisters says, "Through the Mentors in Motion program, we feel we'll achieve the same outcome as our regular community-based program has, where they'll avoid risky behaviors, set higher goals for themselves, increased self-confidence, along with just a healthier lifestyle, so we know that the benefit will still be the same."

If you'd like to know more about the Mentors in Motion program, or you're interested in becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, you can attend the free kick-off event, January 30th at Action City.
