Fatal crash in Barron County


Barron County (Wisconsin State Patrol Press Release) - At 2:15 PM on Friday January 10, 2014 a crash occurred on WIS 48 EB at STH 48 one mile south of Mikana in Barron County near Rice Lake.

Assisting agencies included Barron County Sheriff's Department and Birchwood area Fire and EMS.

Two vehicles were eastbound on STH 48 when the following vehicle, a red Ford F250 attempted to pass the first vehicle, a Silver Ford Explorer.

Contact was made by the right rear portion of the F250 truck to the left front portion of the Explorer and both vehicles subsequently left the roadway and overturned. The driver of the F250 was not buckled, was ejected, was pinned under the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two passengers of the Explorer were buckled and were not injured. Barron County Sheriff's Department assisted with the initial response and is assisting with notifications.

This crash is being investigated and reconstructed by the Wisconsin State Patrol, North West Region. The investigation continues.
