"Defeat Hunger Bowl" kicks off in our community

MADISON (WKOW) -- It's an important time for Second Harvest Southern because after the holidays, hunger does not go away.

The first annual, "Defeat Hunger Bowl" kicks off in Wisconsin. In an effort to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in Wisconsin, Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones is teaming up with a variety of food banks to launch the event.

It starts January 8 and runs through February 9. Walmart and Sam's Club are participating in the effort, along with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, Feed My People, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, Channel One Regional Food Bank and Second Harvest Heartland.

Right now, nonperishable food items will be accepted at 91 participating Walmart stores and 12 Sam's Club locations throughout Wisconsin, with all donations benefiting local Feeding America food banks.
