Altoona Police: Man found dead in bar bathroom

Altoona (WQOW)- Police have identified the man found dead in the bathroom of a local bar. Officers and first responders were called to Whiskey's Bar and Grill in Altoona early Saturday night. 

A bar manager told WQOW News 18 that an employee found John Gallagher, unresponsive, in the bathroom shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday.

When officers arrived Gallagher was not breathing and he had no pulse. Despite attempts at CPR he could not be revived and was pronounced dead. An autopsy has been scheduled. 

Altoona police say John Gallagher was 50 years old and was from Eau Claire. Police are conducting a death investigation but say there is no safety or threat concern to the community.

Press Release (Altoona Police)- On the evening hours of Saturday, January 11, 2014 at approximately 6:19 PM the Altoona Police Department, Altoona Rescue and the Eau Claire Fire Department responded to a report of an unconscious male subject at Whiskey's Bar and Grill located at 943 Harlem Street in Altoona.   

Officers' arrived on scene and found a male subject unresponsive in the bathroom.  He was not breathing and no pulse was located.  CPR was initiated in attempt to revive the male subject.  EMS arrived and CPR continued. The male subject did not respond to the emergency medical services conducted.  He was pronounced deceased on scene.  An autopsy is scheduled to be performed and further information will be released at a later date.

The male subject is identified as John D. Gallagher, 50 years old, from Eau Claire.

Based on the preliminary investigation findings the Altoona Police Department is conducting a death investigation at this time.  There is no safety or threat concern to our community.
