Man arrested at Altoona home after shots were fired

Press Release (Altoona Police)- On the evening hours of Friday, January 10, 2014 at approximately 6:32 PM the Altoona Police Department responded to a report of a threats case at 1420 Hayden Avenue.    

 Officers' arrived on scene and met with a female at a residence nearby.  She informed the officer that she had come home to her boyfriend who was intoxicated and that he was going to leave.  She took his phone and truck keys from him.  He said that he would walk to the bar.  He changed his mind and walked into the bedroom.  The female said that she heard a zipper open on what she thought was his gun case.  When she heard this she left the residence and went to the neighbor's house.  While she was talking to the officer at the neighbor's, the officer heard a "pop" sound.  Deputies from the Eau Claire Sheriff's Department were on scene at that time.  A second "pop" was heard and radio traffic from on of the deputies on scene stated, "shot's fired."  The male subject from the residence located at 1420 Hayden Avenue had fired two rounds.  It is unknown where the shots were fired from or at, at this time.

The male subject was contacted by the officers' only for the male subject to retreat back into the residence where the door was closed and the lights turned off.  After a short time, the lights came back on inside the residence and the door opened.  The male subject did exit his residence and contact was made by the officers' and e was taken into custody without incident. 

The weapon involved in this incident was recovered by law enforcement at the residence.

The male subject taken into custody is identified as Leonard T. Pope, 28 years old, from Altoona.  Leonard T. Pope was charged with Intoxicated Use of a Firearm, Failure to Comply with being Taken into Custody and Domestic Related Disorderly Conduct.  He will appear in court on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 1100 AM.
