Trempealeau County (WQOW)- An inmate tries to make a fast break but doesn't get too far.

On Friday the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department says an inmate escaped from the Trempealeau County Health Care Center by jumping out a second story window. He was spotted at a gas station in Whitehall where deputies say he stole a vehicle that had been left running in the parking lot.

He lead deputies on a short chase before stopping on Highway 53 in the city of Blair, where he was taken into custody.

After being treated for minor injuries at the hospital he was returned to the health care center.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department says the inmate's name is Michael Leavitt.
