Public weighs in on Business 53 redesign

Lake Hallie (WQOW) - A roundabout or an intersection? That's the question facing engineers as they consider what to do with Business 53 in Lake Hallie.

The road, which runs from Melby Street to County OO is in need of repairs. At a meeting last night, the public was invited to weigh in on what to do.

"There was discussion about traffic crashes at roundabouts versus traffic crashes at intersections. The roundabouts, if there is a crash, they tend to be more of a sideswipe, slower speed than a person that would happen to be running a red light at fifty miles and hour and there's a t-bone intersection crash and now we have injuries," said John Neihart, Lake Hallie Village President.

22,000 vehicles travel the road each day, so the village president says they'll likely keep at least a pair of lanes open during construction. The speed limit would have to be reduced if roundabouts are added. Engineers will now draw up a few possible options before another public meeting is held sometime this summer.
