MADISON, WI (WKOW) -- Middleton High School junior Elizabeth Norregaard doesn't say much at practice; she let's her performance speak for itself.
The point guard put up a game-high 25 points Friday, January 10 against Madison La Follette to help the Cardinals to a perfect Big Eight Conference record.
"That's how shooters are," said Jeff Kind, Middleton girls basketball coach. "They usually have a calm demeanor, but they're little assassins. If you give them an open shot, they'll drain it."
But last year, Norregaard was playing on an entirely different court. The 16 year-old was playing on the Danish junior national team.
"I feel like the game in Europe is more fast-paced," said Norregaard.
She is originally from Denmark and moved here with her parents in September after her dad accepted a job in Madison.
"It was hard getting used to in the beginning," she said. "In Denmark, basketball is an all year thing, and here when I came, I had to wait two months before the season started. I'm used to playing everyday so it was kind of weird."
But her transition has been seamless, said Kind.
"She's fit in very well," he said. "The girls are accepting. It helps if you're a really good player."
Norregaard's ability to score from beyond the arc has helped Middleton to remain undefeated in conference play.
"She has a long range," said Kind, "which has opened things up for the rest of us. So, it's been a welcome addition."
The Cardinals won at least a share of the Big Eight Conference title six straight years before settling for fourth place last year. This year, the team is poised to win the conference and potentially make a deep run in the state tournament.
