Eau Claire (WQOW) - Local runners laced up and started Saturday morning with a three-mile run on the Chippewa River State Trail. They're training for this year's Eau Claire marathon, and you can too, the group is free to join and open to all running levels.
Matt Evans, the coordinator for the Eau Claire Half Marathon Build-Up Program, said the program provides support for anyone looking to prepare themselves mentally and physically for the big race.
"It really is for anyone who wants to come down and train. But one of the things we want to offer is if you're unsure of nutrition or how far you should be going, how to ramp up your mileage or how to train for a marathon versus a half marathon, we want to give advice to those who just want to have a little bit more support for doing a community run like this," Evans said.
Runners meet every Saturday morning at 8:15am and increases runs by one mile each weekend. The date of this year's Eau Claire Marathon is May 4th. Eau Claire's own WQOW News 18 is proud to be a sponsor of the event.
