Cottage Grove boy's birthday party raises money for cancer research

COTTAGE GROVE (WKOW) -- A local family is celebrating their son's birthday by raising money for childhood cancer research to help children like him.

Westley Schuldise's parents threw him a party Saturday to celebrate his second birthday which was on Friday. The boy has already gone through six rounds of chemotherapy for cancer in his left eye.

"Since his birthday is like only a month after Christmas, he doesn't need anymore toys se we decided to throw a birthday party and in lieu of presents, Alex's Lemonade Stand could get donations from our friends and family instead," says mom Angela. "We can do a little bit of giving back for everyone who helped us when we were going through his treatment."

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation started because of a front yard lemonade stand created in 2000 by Alexandra Scott, a cancer patient. In the past 13 years, the foundation has raised more than $65 million for cancer research.
