UPDATE: Porchlight fire under control, no injuries


MADISON (WKOW) -- Fire officials say an afternoon fire was contained to one apartment unit at the Porchlight facility on Brooks Street in downtown Madison.

Madison fire responded around 2:30 Sunday afternoon and saw smoke coming from the top floor of the building. People were already evacuating.

Madison fire officials say firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to put out the flames, knocking it down within minutes.

No one was hurt. Damage is estimated at about $15,000 in property damage and $5,000 for content. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A fire in January 2012 at Porchlight forced more than 100 people out of the shelter.


MADISON (WKOW) -- No injuries were reported after a fire happened at a Madison homeless shelter Sunday afternoon.  Officials say the fire is under control.

According to Dane County Communications, the Madison Fire Department was called to Porchlight on N. Brooks Street around 2:45 p.m. and was under control a little after 3 p.m.  They say there were no injuries reported.

Porchlight had a fire a little over two years ago in January 2012.  That fire forced more than 100 people out of the shelter.
