Hearing scheduled for underage drinking bill

MADISON (WKOW) -- Underage drinkers could soon have some immunity when seeking help for themselves or others.

A State Senate committee scheduled a hearing regarding this bill for Wednesday. It ran into some opposition during the Assembly hearing last year.

Police say they are cautious about the enforcement efforts regarding this bill. However supporters state that the goal is so that underage drinkers aren't afraid to report crimes or seek medical help just because they broke the law themselves by consuming alcohol underage.

The bill is sponsored by Democratic Senator Fred Risser, his district includes the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The bill has bipartisan support in the Legislature.
