Lawmakers to hold meeting on redistricting reform

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A public meeting has been scheduled by two retiring State Senators to discuss changing how Legislature redraws political boundaries.

Republican Senator Dale Schultz and Democratic Senator Tim Cullen planned this meeting for Monday in the State Capitol.

In 2011 Republicans drew the political boundary lines in a way that favored their party, which in turn, lead Democrats to began calling for a change in the way this process is handled. Some lawmakers are in favor of modeling the redistricting process after Iowa which has boundaries drawn out by a nonpartisan agency.

Two UW-Madison professors and redistricting experts, Legal counsel for Iowa's redistricting plan, and the chairman of Common Cause Wisconsin are all invited to the public meeting.
