Kmart closing locations in Chippewa Falls and Menomonie


Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - It's lights-out for two area retail giants. Kmart stores in Menomonie and Chippewa Falls will close.

An employee at the Menomonie location confirmed that store will close in May, but wasn't able to give us the exact date. The Chippewa Falls Kmart will be shutting its doors on May 19th. With already a handful of vacant buildings in the Chippewa Falls strip mall, and Kmart on its way out, the future of the building is unknown.

"What do you think is the most concerns I hear from people in Chippewa Falls. Is it the police, is it fire, is it roads? It's that we don't have a Southside grocery store," Chippewa Falls Mayor Greg Hoffman says.

We did reach out to Kmart's corporate office to find out why the retailer is closing these two stores. We did not hear back. The Chippewa Falls location employees nearly 80 people.


Chippewa Falls (WQOW)- Kmart will be closing its doors in Chippewa Falls.

Mayor Greg Hoffman says the store will go out of business sometime in late May.

Employees at Kmart's Menomonie location have confirmed that store will also be closing in May.
