Wisconsin marsh to offer owl-watching outing

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Horicon Marsh will give bird watchers a chance to get glimpses of snowy owls this weekend.

An "owl prowl" event is being offered by the Department of Natural Resources and the Horicon Marsh Bird Club on Saturday. Participants of the event will get the opportunity to search the marsh for the owls, attend a presentation, and hike outside to call owls.

Snowy owls are among the largest of North American owls. They have wingspans close to 5 feet.  Usually snowy owls remain in the Arctic all year, but will migrate south if their main food source, lemmings, becomes scarce.
