NEW INFORMATION: Authorities identify woman killed in Baldwin train crash

St. Croix Co. (Press Release) - UPDATE: The driver of the vehicle involved in the truck versus train crash at 2231 Highway 12, in Baldwin, on 2/5/14, was identified as Roy Lee Marske, 69, from Cumberland. He was transported to the Baldwin Area Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. His wife, Gloria Helen Marske, 69, from Cumberland, was also transported to the Baldwin Area Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.

This is the third traffic fatality for St. Croix County in 2014.

St. Croix Co. (Press Release) - UPDATE: On 2-5-2014, at approximately 11:59 a.m., deputies from the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office, along with Baldwin Police Department, Baldwin Area EMS and United Fire, were dispatched to a pick-up truck versus train crash at 2231 Highway 12 in Baldwin.

A pick-up truck was leaving a business at that address and was northbound approaching Highway 12, when it crossed the railroad tracks. According to information from the scene, the driver of the vehicle was crossing the tracks when he noticed the westbound train. The driver then reversed direction, attempting to back up off of the tracks, but his vehicle was struck in the passenger side by the train.

The driver of the truck, a 69-year-old man from Cumberland, was transported to the Baldwin Area Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The passenger, a 69-year-old woman from Cumberland, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Baldwin Area Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. The names are being withheld pending notification of the family.

There are no injuries being reported by the crew of the train. The train was carrying mixed cargo containers.

This incident remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.
