Salt shipments arrive for WI

Posted: Updated:

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- 50,000 tons of salt was brought into the Port of Milwaukee Wednesday morning.

Trucks were ready to ship it out across southern Wisconsin.

Some cities have been combining salt with sand to get by while their supplies run low.

The city of Milwaukee had used 62,000 tons of salt before two storms that hit Saturday and Wednesday.

That's already 5,000 tons more than it uses in a typical winter.

This has been a problem across the country.

The salt being delivered Wednesday at the Port of Milwaukee belongs to Kansas-based North American Salt Co.

Spokeswoman Tara Hart says it comes from the largest salt mine in the world, which is in Goderich, Ontario, Canada.
