Polar Plunge volunteers gear up for weekend event

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Some people run from the cold, others run to it, or plunge into it.  We're of course talking about the annual Polar Plunge.

It's going on this Saturday, February 8 beginning at 10 a.m. and benefits the Special Olympics of Wisconsin.

The event is being held at Willow Island at the Alliant Energy Center.  Lori Casper, a nine-time participant, plans to jump for a 10th time.  She is also heavily involved in organizing the volunteers.  Casper's son Jake is a Special Olympics athlete and plans to take the plunge himself.

Mother and son stopped by Wake Up Wisconsin to share their experiences with the event and to encourage others to get involved and be freezin' for a reason.

WKOW is a proud sponsor of the Polar Plunge. 27 News anchors Greg Jeschke and Amber Noggle will emcee the event.
