Miami Heat acknowledge #LebronMeetEbony movement

Posted: Updated:

VERONA (WKOW) -- The Miami Heat basketball team has seen Verona teenager Ebony Nettles-Bey's story and the Twitter movement that followed.

Nettles-Bey, previously a standout basketball player at Madison West High School, transferred to Verona High School last summer.

Before suiting up for her first game for the Wildcats, she was diagnosed with stage four cancer.

A campaign started by one of Nettles-Bey's teammates earlier this week uses the Twitter hashtag #LebronMeetEbony in the hopes of convincing Miami Heat all star LeBron James to meet Nettles-Bey through social media.

The hashtag briefly trended worldwide Wednesday.

The Heat play in Milwaukee next month.
