Senate fails to pass jobless benefits bill

Posted: Updated:

(MADISON) WKOW -- Long-term unemployment benefits have not been restored after Republicans block legislation from moving forward in the Senate.

The measure called for extending long-term jobless benefits for three months. They expired in December.

The plan needed 60 votes to move forward, but only got 58 even with support from some Republicans. It's the second time this year Democrats have tried to extend benefits and they say they'll try again.
