Local company offers unique way to spread the love on Valentine's Day

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW)-- In honor of Valentine's Day a local business has decided to help locals voice their love for one another. You may have seen these messages on your daily commute. All you have to do is look up at one of the digital billboards in the Madison area.

"When Valentine's Day came around we thought what better way to do something cool for the community than allow them to do Valentines Day messages on the board," Adams Outdoor Advertising General Manager Chris Eigenberger says.

To get your Valentine's Day message on one of their boards, all you have to do is search for them on Facebook. Type in "Adams Outdoor Advertising Madison" and like their page. Afterwards you'll be able to write a short message and workers will put it up on one of their billboards free of charge.

"What really surprised me was they're not just in Madison, but somehow it got viral and went into other countries and across the United States," Eigenberger says.

Christian Plageman saw the messages and immediately saw an opportunity.

"Why not do one for someone I like? So I did one for this girl I've been crushing on for about a year and a half and asked her to the dance," Plageman says.

A few hours after the message went live Plageman's secret crush texted him back and accepted his offer to the Winter formal in Sun Prairie. After hearing the good news Plageman grabbed his suit and tie and set them out for the big night.

"One of my friends mentioned that he wanted to steal my idea and I said by all means go for it," Plageman laughs.

Danielle Petrie saw the messages and decided to write one for her boyfriend serving in the Marines.

"I'm very proud of him. It's a lot of hard work doing what they do and it just takes a lot of guts and bravery and dedication. I just wanted to let him know he's special and I'm proud of him," Petrie says.

Some of the more unique messages on the billboards include, "You're My Ninja Turtle," "You Make My Motor Purr," "U R the Vodka to my Soda" and "Love you More Than Peanut Butter."

The company has received more than 200 messages so far. They plan to host them on their billboard until this weekend. They're still accepting messages at this time so if you're interested be sure to get them in as soon as possible. Workers are also debating whether or not to expand the idea to other holidays in the future.
