JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- A Janesville man leads police on a chase through town, but is finally arrested.

Janesville police say Thursday night around 11:20, an officer was investigating a theft complaint in the 400 block of South Ringold Street when he noticed a Pontiac Sunfire going at a high rate of speed on South Fremont. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver, Alex Schenck, refused to pull over.

The officer pursued Schenck through the neighborhood on East Racine Street. Police say Schenck turned off his headlights, drove through stop signs, and reached speeds of 60 miles an hour. The officer eventually terminated the pursuit after a few minutes for safety reasons.

A few seconds later, police say Schenck forced another Janesville squad off the road. Officers continued to follow Schenck at normal speeds, but lost him in the area of Racine Street and Palmer Driver. They found the vehicle in the parking lot of a bar on Racine Street.

Officers established a perimeter and eventually saw Schenck emerge from a wood line. He was taken into custody.

No one was hurt in the incident and there was no damage as a result of the pursuit.

Schenck also has several warrants out from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office:
