Snow not stretching the city's overtime plowing budget

Eau Claire (WQOW) - With all the snow this winter it seems city employees have been going non-stop. Does this mean their overtime budget is taking a hit?

In the past seven and a half weeks, the city has already paid out $33,000 in overtime for plowing. That comes out of a $150,000 budget for overtime that has to last until the end of next December. The street department says the amount they've spent so far is very comparable to last year.

"Our budget is fine on overtime; we received a new budget January 1st. So we're fine. We did a lot of snow removal operations this winter on straight time. And right now, we know a storm like this coming into it that we're going to be doing some overtime," Street Maintenance Manager Steve Thompson says.

Thompson says it's likely going to take longer to clean up this heavy wet snow, so crews will be working sixteen hour shifts.
