Bill would allow UW to perform classified research

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Another busy day at the State Capitol, as the Assembly takes up a number of issues.

Members passed a bill that would allow UW institutions to perform classified national security research.

It allows the work on campus if student educational needs are protected and the schools report how many classified projects were considered. That bill now goes to the senate.

Its author, Rep. Mike Kuglitsch, (R) New Berlin believes the financial impact to both the university and community would be enormous.

Rep. Kuglitsch says, "I truly believe that the more research, the more funding, and the potential spin-offs as far as companies that will be created from this bill will be a real win for the state of Wisconsin."

The assembly is also expected to approve a bill to prohibit local living wage ordinances from applying to jobs paid for with any state or federal money.
