Eau Claire street crews finish up residential plow

Eau Claire (WQOW) - While many of us were sleeping, snowplow efforts continued through the night in the City of Eau Claire. Twenty-four city plow trucks were out in full force, clearing the remainder of residential roads and de-icing slick streets.

Steve Thompson, the City of Eau Claire's street maintenance manager, said everyone on his crew has been working 16 hour shifts since Thursday. So far, the hours of overtime have paid off.

Thompson said, "Well we worked right through the night. We're done with everything right now. What we're really trying to do right now is get out on our sanding residential, getting the icy spots that we plowed, sand it so there's some traction out there. And then on the main arterioles, we're putting down liquid chloride to help break down some of the ice packs."

Thompson said crews wrapped up for the weekend earlier this evening and will have tomorrow off. But there's still more snow to be moved, and crews will be back at it early Monday morning.
