Road construction planned for Menomonie Street

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A major street to downtown and Carson Park is on the road to construction. Menomonie Street, from Clairemont to Ninth Avenue, is set for an overhaul this spring. The $1.2 million dollar project will likely begin early-mid May, once classes end at the university.

Plans call for decreasing the lanes from four to two with a center turn lane, from Carson Park Drive to Ninth Ave. On this stretch, only surface repairs are needed and the road will remain open. The other half of the road that runs from Clairemont to Carson Park Drive, needs more work. All the utilities will be replaced, meaning the road will be closed and traffic will be detoured to Cameron Street. Tonight, the city council will discuss possible options for the bike path that crosses Menomonie Street near Dairy Queen, like adding an island in the middle so users would be able to cross the road halfway.

The entire project is set to wrap up by July fourth, just in time for the Carson Park fireworks.
