Winter Weary: Snow stacking up, on pace for third coldest season in years

Eau Claire (WQOW) - From snow to the bitter cold, it's been one blow after another. Right now, we're dealing with the extreme cold again.  News 18 Meteorologist Nick Grunseth said we are on pace for the third coldest winter in more than 30 years.

With little relief in sight, that means the snow is going nowhere. Meteorologist Nick Grunseth said, "We have about 20 inches of snow on the ground right now, and in that snow pack is about 3 1/2 inches of water. When you factor that out, if you were to just consider the city of Eau Claire, by itself, that's two billion gallons of water sitting on the ground. That's enough to fill a little more than 3,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools."

Our forecast team said Eau Claire saw about 47 inches of snow during an average winter.  Already, we're at about 59 inches.
