Man found guilty of multiple charges stemming from 2012 fatal crash

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The verdicts are in for a driver charged in the death of his passenger in a Barron County crash.

After a three-day trial, a jury today found Wade Richey guilty of homicide while driving under the influence of a controlled substance.  Richey, who's from Spooner, was also convicted of causing great harm by reckless driving.

The charges stem from a 2012 crash that killed 15-year old Triston Sager.  The Birchwood teen was riding in the cargo portion of Richey's vehicle when it crashed.

Another passenger, who was injured, told investigators Richey knew he had bad brakes, and that Richey was driving over 90-miles an hour and was sliding the vehicle around curves. A sentencing date will now be set.
