Western Wisconsin nursing home to close

Western Wisconsin (WQOW) - Nearly two dozen residents of a western Wisconsin nursing home will have to find a new place to live.

Residents and staff at the Gilman Care Center were told Friday that the facility is closing. 35 full and part-time employees will lose their jobs. Jack Halbleib is president of Covenant Care, which manages the nursing home.

He says the closing is due to a combination of reduced occupancy, low government reimbursements, and difficulty in retaining quality staff.

He says they are now working with the 23 residents and their families to re-locate them to other area facilities. He expects the nursing home to close within the next month and a half.
