13th annual rock climbing competition draws 90 competitors

Menomonie (WQOW) - It's an uphill battle that's worth the climb. Saturday, 90 rock climbers of all ages from all over the state competed in a unique event: the 13th annual RockFest Climbing Wall Competition.

The rock climbing event was hosted by Stout Adventures at UW-Stout, which was organized by the Wisconsin Indoor Climbing Series. Clubs from six UW schools, including Stout and Eau Claire, helped run the event.

Devon Derby, the interim coordinator of Stout Adventures at UW-Stout, said, "It's kind of like the Holy Grail, it's our huge event. It's really cool to see the community come together and other schools to put this on for them. That's part of what we do. We love the community and everything about it."

This youngest competitor at this year's event is just 8-years-old.
