Crews respond to garage fire in Lake Hallie



News Release from Chippewa Fire District On March 1, 2014 at 8:40 pm the Chippewa Fire District and Lake Hallie Police were dispatched to a reported garage fire at 1356 118th street. The fire was reported by Ms. Carol Klatt who was home at the time. Lake Hallie Police Officer Daniel Sokup arriving first on scene reported heavy smoke coming from the garage. Fire units arriving found heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the garage and the roof. 9 units and 25 firefighters from the Chippewa Fire District responded to the fire. Township Fire Department Seymour Station provided a tender and additional firefighters.

No civilians or firefighters was injured in the fire and the family's pets were uninjured. The fire was confined to the attached garage with the house suffering smoke damage. Several snowmobiles were destroyed in the fire along with tools and associated equipment. Firefighters were hampered by the cold and road conditions. Accumulated snow on the roof had to be cleared before the fire inside the garage could be completely extinguished. The fire is under investigation but it appears the fire started near a wood burning stove. Damage to the garage and contents may reach $75,000.


Lake Hallie (WQOW) - Crews responded to a garage fire in Lake Hallie, on 118th Street, around 9:00pm Saturday night.  

The Chippewa Fire District says there were people home at the time, but were able to get out and no one was injured. The two car garage is attached to a home.

Firefighters say there were snowmobiles and gasoline cans in the garage. They believe a wood burning stove may have started the fire.

Crews also helped get two cats out of the home safely.
