Emergency plan kicks in at local school after visitor fails to follow protocol

Eau Claire (WQOW) - An emergency plan kicks in at an Eau Claire school after a visitor fails to follow protocol.

It happened on Thursday at the Prairie Ridge Early Learning School off Truax Boulevard.  The school district says a man was allowed into the building, but refused to check in at the office.  Staff members then asked him to leave, which the man did.  At the same time, police were called and a classroom "hold" went into effect.  A hold is when students and staff are asked to remain in their classrooms until further notice.

The Eau Claire School District says no one was in danger and the situation was resolved in less than two minutes.

If you have a student at Prairie Ridge, you should have received a letter, which came home with your child Tuesday, explaining the situation.  WQOW News 18 asked the district why it waited until Tuesday to inform parents, five days after it happened. The district says it was waiting to discuss the situation with police.
