WQOW News 18 Weather Academy

Weather Academy is a program designed to teach area school children about how weather works and how to stay safe when severe weather threatens.  Since 2005, the Stormtracker 18 Weather meteorologists have hosted the program at elementary schools in Eau Claire and around the Chippewa Valley.

There are two parts to the Weather Academy program: an assembly and an open house.  The assembly is a presentation lasting about one hour during the school day.  Students at the host school learn about weather processes and severe weather through experiments and visual aids.  The open house is after school, usually from 5 PM to 6:30 PM.  A casual event, students are welcome to bring their families and close friends to learn more about weather, see experiments, draw weather pictures for the Daybreak show, and be part of a live television broadcast.
