Altoona Police Department planning to restructure

Altoona, Wis. (WQOW) - On the heels of adding a new staff member, the Altoona Police Department is looking to shake things up a bit.

On Monday, a new lieutenant took his post at the department. Now, the department is hoping to add two new sergeant positions. The hires would be selected from the department's 14 officers. With Altoona growing in population, the chief says the restructuring will organize the department, help it to run more smoothly and prepare for possible expansion.

"It's very difficult to be in the ranks of the officers and have only one person to go to. Sometimes, that person is not available. This opens up our agency to have multiple resources available," Chief Jesse James of the Altoona Police and Fire Departments says.

The chief hopes to fill one, if not both of the positions, before the end of the year.
